Air pollution and how it affects YOU

“I don’t need an air purifier, I keep my house clean and I know the air in my house is clean!” Everyone believes this, but they are most likely wrong. Your air is not clean no matter how clean you think your house is.

How is it possible that my air is dirty?

You might think the air around you is clean because you take good care of your house, but that doesn’t matter if the air in your city is dirty. According to a study done by the American Lung Association, approximately 147.6 million Americans live in cities with air that is dangerous because of pollution and other air contaminants. You can keep your house clean but that does not affect the quality of air in your house that comes in from the outside. There will always be dirty air in your house because almost half of Americans live in cities with dangerous levels of air pollution. Even if you do not live in a city that is classified as dangerous due to air pollution, there is still pollution, just not at a level considered “dangerous.”

What happens when I’m around air pollution all the time?

The Physicians for Social Responsibility reported that air pollution can cause asthma, lung cancer, and other lung diseases. Our lungs are designed to be able to filter out some pollutants, but it cannot withstand constant air pollution and will eventually fail. It is not always possible to avoid polluted air, but when possible, you need to do whatever is necessary to avoid contaminated air.

What are some ways to avoid contaminated air?

You need clean air when you are home. The only way to ensure the air at home is clean is to use an air purifier. Air purifiers use either a filter or an ozone plate or even both to separate dirty air particles and contaminants from the air so you are only breathing in clean air. Air goes through a filter and anything else in the air will be caught by the filter. Air purifiers using ozone plates release ozone into the air to attach to dirty air molecules. The ozone attaches to the contaminated particle and falls off, leaving only pure oxygen. We recommend every household having an Atlas air purifier to fight off polluted air at home and to fight off asthma, lung cancer, and all the other lung diseases plaguing America.

Maintenance of your Atlas air purifier

Taking care of your shiney new Atlas air purifier allows you to enjoy it much longer. If you don’t take the time to care for your air purifier, it will break and malfunction much more than if you were to take care of it. Today we will discuss the steps required so your Atlas air purifier can remain running smoothly.

Why is it important to maintain your device?

Similar to how your car needs regular maintenance every 5000 miles, your air purifier needs maintenance every couple of months to remain functioning properly. We have seen air purifiers normally make. However, they started exhibiting all those problems because the product was not taken care of. Those problems occur when the ozone plates are not cleaned regularly and swapped regularly. They also occur when the filter is not changed regularly. With a few basic maintenance tips, you can prevent most of these problems and most other problems.

How should I maintain my device?

We recommend monthly cleaning at home. Turn off the device and remove the ozone plates from the air purifier. Use a towel to wipe down the plates, ensuring there are no particles stuck on the ozone plates. Wipe down the inside of the machine so there is no dust and the inside looks brand new. Wipe down the filter with a moist cloth as carefully as you can to clean any dust or dirt off. We also recommend that you change the plates between 6 months to 1 year, depending on how often the air purifier is used. Our ozone plates need to be replaced in order to produce the same amount of quality ozone as it did when you first bought them. When you go long periods of time without replacing your ozone plates, you might notice that your machine is not cleaning the air as it used to when you first got it. That is a sign that you are long overdue for new ozone plates. Don’t wait until it gets to that point, make sure you replace your ozone plates after 1 year latest if you want your Atlas air purifier to actually purify your air.

Do you have any other tips?

Other than monthly cleaning and also replacing the ozone plates, we also recommend replacing the filter on your air purifier yearly if your model uses an air filter. To replace the air filter, you just take it out from the back of your device and put in the new filter.

If you follow all these tips, your Atlas air purifier should run well for many years to come. Most customers run into problems when they don’t follow the maintenance and care tips for their device so make sure you follow them if you don’t want future problems.

Preventing Secondhand Smoke

Smoking doesn’t harm just you, it harms everyone around you. Second hand smoke causes cancer and is just as dangerous to your health as actually smoking.

What’s wrong with smoking?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), smoking cigarettes is the biggest leading cause of preventable death and disease in America. According to the CDC, more than 16 million Americans are living with a disease caused by smoking and cause nearly 6 million deaths per year worldwide and nearly 500,000 of them are from the United States. I’ll let that sink in. We spend $26.6 billion a year to poison our bodies and kill ourselves.

I know smoking is bad but I’m not hurting anyone else!

Smoking affects more than just you, it affects everyone around you. Of the 500,000 deaths, secondhand smoke kills 41,000 Americans yearly. That’s 1,300 deaths every single day. It can lead to ear infections, asthma attacks, respiratory infections, and a greater risk for sudden infant death syndrome in children. Secondhand smoke causes heart disease, lung cancer, and stroke in adults. Smoking kills your loved ones and everyone around you, not just yourself.

How can I make sure I don’t hurt my loved ones?

The best way to make sure you don’t hurt your loved ones is to quit smoking. But not everyone can simply quit smoking. Another easier way to mitigate the effects of secondhand smoke is to purchase an air purifier. Air purifiers help rid the room of smoke and other pollutants in the air caused by smoking. It ensures that you are not breathing in any harmful particles from secondhand smoke. The Atlas store carries air purifiers that instantly make a difference in the quality of the air around you and your household. Our wide selection of top notch air purifiers will help remove some of the harmful pollutants in the air from smoking.

How to Pick the Perfect Air Purifier

If you are in the market for a new air purifier you have the right to know what you are buying. Today we will tell you everything you need to know about the different types of air purifiers and the best one for you.

What are the different types?

You can have Ultraviolet (UV) air purifiers, Ozone generating air purifiers, High Efficiency Particle Arresting (HEPA) air purifiers, as well as other types of air purifiers. There isn’t one specific type of air purifier for every home, each home is unique and requires a different type to work efficiently.

Ultraviolet Air Purifiers
Ultraviolet air purifiers use an ultraviolet light to destroy airborne particles. An airborne pathogen that goes through the light will be destroyed on contact. The UV lights installed in a typical air purifier are not strong enough to completely destroy every particle by themselves, which is why most UV air purifiers are combined with other technology to fully clean the air.

Ozone Air Purifiers

Ozone is an unstable molecule made up of three Oxygen atoms, which is why Ozone is known as O3. Ozone gives up the extra Oxygen in order to be O2, which is a stable molecule. The extra Oxygen attaches itself to other particles and chemicals and destroys it. Ozone air purifiers release Ozone into the air and the Ozone helps remove the dirty air particles. Ozone air purifiers are best used to remove odors and chemicals from the air.

HEPA Air Purifiers

Hepa air purifiers were originally made for industrial commercial trades to sanitize large rooms. Hepa air purifiers get their name from the HEPA air filter they use. HEPA air filters are made so only air can flow through it and nothing else.  Everything else gets trapped in the filter.

So which one should I get?

If you just need a basic air purifier to clean the air, get a HEPA air purifier with UV light. A HEPA air purifier with UV light will be able to purify the air of most homes and offices. If you need something stronger to remove the stench of an area or if you need something for commercial use, you need an Ozone air purifier. If you are still uncertain, stop by the Atlas store today and shop our large selection of air purifiers today. We have trained technicians to help you pick the perfect air purifier for your home.

Atlas Security Camera

You might think you live in a safe neighborhood and you are safe from crime, but all it takes is one burglar to destroy your life.
Burglaries in the U.S.
Almost 2.5 million home burglaries happen each year. One out of every three residential assaults results from burglaries. The chance of having everything stolen from your home is too high to ignore. The average loss from a burglary is $2,251. That is only the average amount lost. You can be losing way more than just $2,251 when your home gets burglarized.
But my home is safe!
Even if you think your home is safe because there will be someone home or you think you know the people in your neighborhood, you can still be targeted. The majority of break-ins are by burglars who live nearby. They know what you have in your home as well as any weaknesses in your home. In nearly 30% of the burglaries a household member is present. Just because there is someone home does not detract determined thieves from attacking your home.
What helps protect me?
A home security system is essential in combating burglaries. About 60% of convicted burglars said that the presence of a home security system caused them to target another home. When you have a home security system, you are not worth the risk and trouble for burglars to steal from your household. The Atlas store has small night vision weatherproof cameras as well as hidden cameras to help provide you with the security you need. Our night vision camera utilizes a high quality color CMOS sensor for crisp, clear images even when visibility is low. Burglars will leave your house alone when they see that they are being monitored and they can be potentially identified if they attempt to attack your home. This is the perfect safety measure for your household.

Understanding Humidity and use of Dehumidifiers

Understanding humidity is the first step in finding the correct dehumidifier for you. Today, we will cover everything you need to know about dehumidifiers so you can purchase one that suits all your needs.
What is humidity?
In order to understand humidity, we need to realize what humidity refers to. There is absolute humidity and relative humidity. Absolute humidity is the measure of moisture in the air regardless of temperature. Relative humidity is the measure of moisture in the air relative to the temperature. It is the percentage of water vapor in the air compared to the maximum that can be in the air. The concept of absolute humidity is not very important because we only care about relative humidity. Weather reports refer to relative humidity when talking about humidity.
How does relative humidity affect our everyday lives though?
Humidity can have a major impact on your well-being at home. When there is too much humidity, you are at risk for fungi, dust mites, allergies and asthma, as well as overheating. If there is not enough humidity and your home is too dry, you are at risk for bacteria, viruses, respiratory infections, dry eyes, and chapped lips. The optimal humidity level for a comfortable and sanitary household is between 40% and 60%.
My house is way too humid! What should I do?
If you feel like your house or your work area is uncomfortably humid, you can get a dehumidifier to reduce the humidity. A dehumidifier absorbs the moisture from the air until you are satisfied with the humidity. We have a wide selection of powerful dehumidifiers here at the Atlas Store. Our dehumidifiers range from small portable room dehumidifiers to larger commercial dehumidifiers. Whether you need a dehumidifier just for your office space or you need a dehumidifier for a massive house, we have it all.
